May Issue 2016

TUESDAY, 10 MAY 2016

The weather has been glorious these last few days and my children and I have dined al-fresco. We eat together every day, but our little bistro table gives rise to an increased physical closeness and the holiday mood has given them a relaxed openness and we sat and chatted for far longer than we do usually after eating. I always say that little things make a big difference. The break from the routine by eating outside, walking barefoot on the grass, relinquishing the layers as well as the winter duvet, feel liberating and my bones and my heart feel all the warmer for it.

Red and navy is a classic summer combination and is one of my favourites. This particular outfit made me think of sitting in a cafe in the French Riviera and I'd like to think that my pearl jewellery and the gorgeous ballerinas give an insouciant nod to Mme Chanel.

I try to support small, new and local businesses whenever I can and my top is from a small shop in Skipton called Munchkins which I wrote about last year when I wore this same navy top with skinny jeans and statement shoes.

As a woman with a very small business myself, I think it's wonderful just how much difference other women make by sharing and supporting each others' ventures.

This freshwater pearl and heart jewellery is by Danon and is from my own online boutique Lizzy O. It is so beautifully made and very comfortable to wear and because every piece is hand-crafted (in Israel), every piece is unique. I've only recently bought these for myself and I know I will wear both the necklace and bracelet over and over. There is an option of a silver heart too.

I love wearing heels, but sometimes, a pair of flats is unquestionably the right choice. The school run, travelling and sight-seeing are all more easily executed when not tottering. These all-leather ballet flats have a touch of French chic and are made by a family-run factory in Spain. They're from small British brand Taylor Blake, a business run by working mothers Tracey Taylor and Emily Blake. They're incredibly comfortable and so beautifully made and I couldn't resist the textured gold detailing on this design, the "Copperhead." Without doubt, they'll become a wardrobe staple and looking at the array of colours, they may not be the only pair. The leather is soft and supple and the detailing is divine. It's worth mentioning that the shoes will "give" a little. Mine felt ever so slightly small when I first tried them but they were perfect after wearing them for a few hours. So, if you're in between sizes, I'd advise sizing down.
Do take a look. As I said earlier we small businesses really do appreciate your support.

Lifelong pals Emily Blake and Tracey Taylor have launched a new British footwear brand.

Based in Romiley, Stockport, the pair started Taylor Blake in June last year.

Blake, aged 36, has worked in the footwear industry since 2000 – designing shoes for big high street and supermarket chains.

She said: “Due to the nature of their wholesale and supply work I was often in the Far East – Hong Kong, China and Taiwan – overseeing production and working with UK buyers.”

Taylor of Disley, came on board swapping her high-powered career in marketing and e-commerce to join Blake.

“We’ve been friends for years” she said.

“I knew she was working on a collection of ballerina shoes and she wanted a partner to help her make the leap, but it wasn’t until I saw her amazing designs that I knew I had to jump in with both feet and go for it.”

The pair have now combined skills to create a brand of luxurious everyday ballerina shoes selling directly online.

Blake said: “We are currently working with family-run Spanish factories to create these beautiful shoes and we are sourcing some fabulous European materials. The result has seen one-in-seven customers returning to buy second, third and even fourth pairs of our shoes.”

Prices range from £80 to £90 and Taylor Blake appeals to women from 25 up to 60 years old.

Since launching the website they have seen sales grow month on month.

Blake said: “January was the biggest sales month so far with a 533 per cent increase through using our network to offer tactical marketing offers.”

The start-up have a second collection launching in the coming weeks called Kaleidoscope.

And they have ambitions to see Taylor Blakes in retailers across the UK and Europe.

Blake said: “Starting our own British shoe brand has been exhilarating.

“Despite both having experience in the footwear and retail industry, we have had so much to learn.

“We have hundreds of ideas and dreams for the future but find that, as there are only two of us at the moment, we have to be ruthlessly organised and prioritisation is key.”

The pair are currently looking for an agent to make the next step into retailers.

Beautiful Ballerinas By British Brand Taylor Blake

One of the highlights of blogging is that we often stumble across new small brands that haven’t become yet become mainstream. Brands that offer something a little different from high street clones. And today it’s the turn of British start up Taylor Blake. Under the website name of they have presented a debut collection of gorgeous leather ballerinas. And with the emphasis on high quality all their shoes are produced in Spain guaranteeing that the materials remain reassuringly luxurious and the shoes incredibly comfortable. However, there is only one thing better that a beautiful shoe…. A beautiful price tag! Starting at just £80 these are shoes that won’t break the bank but will guarantee that your feet remain looking expensive!

I don’t think we need to wish the girls at Taylor Blake the best of luck. I predict these shoes are going to be a popular staple in wardrobes all over.

Remember….you heard it here first!

JULY 7, 2015

We're always going on about how we're on the hunt for new brands and labels to stock in our shop, so imagine how excited we were when one of our lovely customers casually mentioned they were starting a brand new shoe brand - excited much!!

Of course there has to be more to choosing brands to stock than liking the designers, we look for our stock to be a bit different from the 'norm', it has to be well made, it has to be reasonably priced and of course it has to be stylish - enter Taylor Blake...

Emily and Tracey's company ethos fits perfectly with ours, they set out to create a well made, well fitting, luxurious feeling ballerina shoe without the designer price point and they have done it.

The ballerina pumps are exquisite, are beautifully crafted (in Spain), have leather insoles for breathability, leather uppers and have such lovely little additions and attention to detail. The colours are vibrant and not only do the look good they are really comfortable.

Available in sizes UK3 to UK8 and guaranteed to have a style that will fit your personality perfectly. Come and give them a try on - you won't be disappointed.

To celebrate the launch of Taylor Blake (and Pretty Fox being the very first stockist) we're throwing a party, more details available here. Would be great to see you!
