Takeover Tuesday with @mancmamas

Posted on March 21, 2017

As we type this Taylor Blake are currently taking over @mancmamas Instagram feed to tell their lovely followers all about the people behind our shoes.  But if you have missed out on all the action - fear not!  Here is the blog post that we wrote just for them....

#TAKEOVERTUESDAY: INTRODUCING TAYLOR BLAKE

Hi there, we are Emily (R) and Tracey (L) the duo that make up Taylor Blake a British shoe brand specialising in ballet flats based here in Stockport.

We are two #mancmamas who, after having successful careers in Industry, felt that we needed a new challenge and a more flexible career after having our kids.  We launched our website, www.lovetaylorblake.com in June 2015, selling our beautiful shoes directly online and promoting ourselves through @lovetaylorblake on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.…

The last 18 months have been a bit of a whirlwind for us that culminated last month when Emily was nominated for Designer of the year at the prestigious Footwear Industry Awards.  This is a massive accolade even to be a finalist as we were up against big brands such as Clarks and Skechers etc and just a few months ago we also reached the finals of the British Fashion Start Up awards.

So how did we begin?

It was during a very noisy play date, with all four of our kids, drinking cold coffee and having a hundred half finished conversations that we discussed the possibility, the hope, that we could make our own future. We could break away from our then only options of full time work/kids in childcare or Stay at home mum…

We could pool our talents and work for ourselves.  With a friendship that spans over 16 years, we had complete faith in working together.

We decided that we would love to create a ballet flat range.  We’d always been a fan of ballerina styles and since becoming mums we pretty much live in flat, runaround shoes.  We wanted to take the ethos of Doc Martins, Converse, Havianna etc and design one shoe in multiple different colourways, making the focus of our shoes all about the materials.

Emily has been a footwear designer for 16 years and all the shoes in our collection are designed by her in her loft studio…

Our shoes are hand made in a single, family run factory in Spain and it is there that Emily personally handpicks the leathers and suedes (not always easy from the huge beautiful range on offer!) from European suppliers whilst overseeing all the development and production with our factory.

Our brief to ourselves has always been we won’t scrimp on quality which is something the high street often demands.  We work on the mantra that quality designs are timeless.  Rose pink suedes, Mulberry snakeskins, emerald green jewels, shimmering gold leathers…our material combinations are designed to make our shoes look unique and our quality outshines fast fashions or throw away styles.

With Tracey’s background in digital marketing, she was quietly building our website using Shopify technology, honing our branding and developing our tone of voice.  We wanted our brand to be real, to be as if we were chatting to friends. We knew our shoes would be loved from the very first sight so we played on that fact with our URL http://www.lovetaylorblake.com and our handle @lovetaylorblake.

Our beliefs have been proven right as over 20% of our customers have more than one pair of our shoes and one customer has 7 pairs!! Every shoe on our website has a 5* rating and our social media channels are full of love for our shoes. If you haven’t already joined us, why don’t you pop on over and say hello!

We have launched two collections so far – Capture which was inspired by the natural world and Kaleidoscope – our celebration of colour.  Our third collection is due out in the next month and we are really excited to show them to our customers and followers.  They will be just as comfortable, just as glam and perfect for stylish mums.

Lots of love

Emily & Tracey xx
